Description & Usage

Atopica (Cyclosporine) is an FDA approved oral medication prescribed to treat common skin allergies in dogs (atopic dermatitis). It helps relieve severe itching, red and scaly skin. 

Precautions & Side Effects

Atopica is prescribed for dogs weighing at least 4 lbs. Do not break open capsules prior to administration. The most common side effects include lack of appetite, vomitting and diarrhea. Contact your vet to ask about interactions with other medicine.

Atopica (Cyclosporine) Capsules for Dogs is available in four different strengths (10mg, 25mg, 50mg and 100mg). You should administer the medicine as recommended by your veterinarian. Atopica should be given orally 1 to 2 hours before meal time. Do not open or break the capsules and keep them in the blister pack until ready to use. 

The recommended dosage is one capsule a day for 30 days. Your veterinarian will usually decrease the frequency of the treatment to a minimum (every other day or twice a week) while maintaining the therapeutic effect of the medicine. Please refer to the dosing chart below.

Do not give Atopica Capsules for Dogs to Cats!

Storage

Store at room temperature between 59° and 77°F. Keep away from pets and children.

Dogs (Over 6 months old)

Weight Dosage
4 to 6.5 lbs Give one 10 mg capsule orally once a day for 30 days.
6 to 6.9 lbs Give two 10 mg capsule orally once a day for 30 days.
9.1 to 16 lbs Give one 25 mg capsule orally once a day for 30 days.
16.1 to 33 lbs Give one 50 mg capsule orally once a day for 30 days.
33.1 to 64 lbs Give one 100 mg capsule orally once a day for 30 days.
64.1 to 79 lbs Give one 100 mg and one 50mg capsule orally once a day for 30 days.

Atopica (Cyclosporine) comes in capsules. Do not remove the capsules from the blister pack until ready to use. Follow the dosage and directions from your veterinarian. Atopica is given orally 1 to 2 hours before mealtime. You veterinarian may choose to reduce the dosage after a few weeks of treatment. If your dog has seasonal allergies, the treatment should be started a few months before allergy season.

How quickly does Atopica work?

Results can vary from dog to dog but you will notice an improvement in your dog's skin within a few weeks. The treatment should start to relieve itching and the skin should look less inflamed.
