Methimazole is an anti-thyroid pill used to treat hyperthyroidism in cats to restore the hormone levels back to normal and prevent vomitting and weight loss. It is also used before thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine treatment. 

Precautions & Side Effects

Blood tests must be done to check for the dosage. Please talk to your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or nursing animals. Periodic blood tests are a mandate while the cat is taking this medication. Side effects may include vomitting, loss of appetite and lethargy. These symptoms usually subside after a few weeks. Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) may happen in rare cases. Do not use in cats who are allergic to methimazole, carbimazole or the excipient, polyethylene glycol. Do not use in cats with liver disease, renal failure, autoimmune diseases, hematological disorders or coagulopathies.
